9 years ago, the grass to grace story of Ola Jumoke made round the internet turning a bread seller into a first top nigeria models female category.
Ola Jumoke was living her everyday life, hawking bread from Oladiran Estate Lagos. One faithful day she was rushing because it was getting late for her evening sales and the bakery who supplier her the Agege bread she hawks on credit was late in giving her the quota to sell that day.
She used the delay as an opportunity to rush home, take her birth, and went back to take her goods for sale. On her way to her place of business, she passed some people doing photoshoot. Unknown to the photographer, Jumoke’s picture were included in the background, echoing the typical African narrative Tinie Tempah, a Nigerian UK-based rapper, was aiming to convey.
Celebrity photographer, TY Bello developed the films of her shoots and saw Jumoke. Her professional eyes told her not to remove the romantic and natural scenes created by Jumoke’s image by accident and Providence. So, she posted the picture, and it went viral and it made her one of the top nigeria models female. People kept asking TY Bello who is that beautiful model you used for the photoshoot. She’s the true definition of African queen.
Hence, TY Bello told the story behind the picture. Many people couldn’t believe it. While other people turned her into their prayer request, asking God to butter their bread as he did for Jumoke.
Everyone wanted to see Ola Jumoke, the bread seller. Every brand wanted to work with Ola Jumoke Oni bread. The one in a lifetime situation catapulted her to fame which brought about her from grass to grace story and over time her story faded in our memory, although few people were on a look out wondering what happened to Jumoke because her online presence dwindled. Some speculated she traveled out of the country.
Only 10 days ago did the story of how she fell back to grass started making media rounds again because she granted an interview with City FM 105.1. During the interview, she told the story of how the person whom the public thought was her husband was her baby daddy. She also explained how his jealousy and lack of support ruined her career and brought her down to grass.
She told an emotional story of how she moved from the apartment paid and furnished for her by Sunjimotos and Groups to living in a slump. She said when it rains I can’t go out because of flooding and my children can go to school. She now survives on hands out in the person of Aunty Azuka (her one time manager) and TY Bello.
This story shows that love burns, leaving people with lifetime scars. Because the only crime she made was opening her heart, life, and home to someone who beat her upon the slightest provocation. She forgot what sent her running from Abeokuta to Lagos. She forgot that a leopard will never change its spots because when she came into fame, accepted him back, but the cycle continued.
Please, if you walked away from anyone because of maltreatment. When God blesses you, do not let them come close. Forgive them from a distance and pray for their growth, because some people should remain as strangers to us.
We should always remember why we walked away in the first place before considering taking anyone back.
